GreenPort Cruise & Congress to highlight ‘Advancing the Green Deal Through Collaboration’

Taking place in Piraeus, Greece from the 20-22 October 2021 the GreenPort Cruise & Congress Conference is set to welcome a host of speakers offering advice, knowledge and information discussing the latest in sustainable development and environmental best practice.

The 2021 conference, titled ‘Advancing the Green Deal Through Collaboration’ will cover a range of themes including; Sustainable development in Port Infrastructure, the latest in Sustainable cruise ships & technological innovation, Greening of Ports & Shipping and Digitalisation for improved port efficiency.

Hosted by Piraeus Port Authority, the conference is to be held at the 5*Athens Marriott Hotel, convenient to both Piraeus and all the travel connections from Athens. Piraeus Port is at the crossroads of Europe, Asia and Africa and is home to Europe’s biggest cruise port and the largest Container Terminal in the Mediterranean. And for the first time, GreenPort Congress is being held both in-person and streamed live to ensure the best possible access for delegates.

As with previous GreenPorts for the convenience of delegates and speakers, ESPO - The European Sea Ports Organisation have scheduled their regular Sustainability and Cruise Committee meetings, both in person and virtually.

Throughout two days of presentations and panel discussions delegates will learn from industry leading voices. On day one, 20 October 2021 the conference will welcome a number of key speakers including Isabelle Ryckbost, Secretary General - European Sea Ports Organisation who will discuss 'The green political agenda of European ports', Roger Strevens, VP, Global Sustainability - Wallenius Wilhelmsen will cover 'Decarbonisation begins at berth: the roles and opportunities of ports and carriers' and Linden Coppell, Director of Sustainability, MSC Cruises who will review ‘The cruise industry’s uptake of LNG and the future of it’.

Day two of the conference will welcome a keynote address delivered by Lamia Kerdjoudj-Belkaid, Secretary General, FEPORT. Lamia is the Secretary General of FEPORT, the Federation of European Private Port Companies and Terminals since March 2014 and will offer key insights with her professional experience of more than 20 years, during which she held different positions within the maritime and logistics sector.

Further key speakers include; Valter Selén, Senior Policy Advisor Sustainable Development, Cruise and Ferry Network EcoPorts Coordinator - ESPO, Jochen Homann, Environmental Advisor - Hamburg Port Authority and Dimitris Spyrou, EU Projects Consultant, Strategic Planning & Marketing dpt, Piraeus Port Authority.
